Microsoft and Yahoo- jobs on the line
February 3rd, 2008

It’s been said that Yahoo has only one option for survival, and that’s merger.
Yahoo has announced it will cut 1000 jobs from its workforce of roughly 14,000 in February 2008, regardless of Microsoft’s offer.
The offer itself, which is naturally going to “remove duplications” as stated by Microsoft, will cut more jobs, in Microsoft’s workforce as well. Microsoft is offering retention packages to some of Yahoo’s staff.
This is the way the top end of the IT market works, jobs move fast, and so do people. It’s a fait accompli for staff of both companies.
But- there’s a possible upside.
The companies are operating in a rapidly expanding market for ad revenue, which is projected to double.
The extra revenue will generate jobs, perhaps not immediately as an American recession looms, but eventually.
Just goes to show-
In the IT industry, keep your ear to the ground, your nose to the wind, and your career moving.
