  1. Basic formal qualifications, usually certificate level.

  2. Prior experience as a practicing bookkeeper for a required period. (The period may vary. In the US, it's 2 years.)

  3. Passed the examination for Certified Bookkeepers (In the US, a 4 part written exam.)

  4. Signed the Code of Ethics (US standard requirement.)
