Why career in Hotel Industry?

According to a survey conducted by Deloitte, the growth in India?s hotel industry has recently reported tremendous boom. A boom in Indian tourism industry has propelled the growth of Indian hotel industry. India?s hotel industry is thriving due to an increase in business opportunities and foreign and domestic tourism. In the year 2006, the Indian hotel industry earned revenues of INR604.32 billion. In recent years government is giving special emphasis to boost hotel industry in India. It is estimated that the employment opportunities in hotel industry in India will increase to 15 million by 2010.

Pre-requisite for career in Hotel Industry

With the growing demand for well-trained professionals in Indian hotel industry, it has become mandatory to receive formal training in the hotel industry. The eligibility criteria for hotel industry courses at the undergraduate level is 10+2.For courses at postgraduate level; the eligibility is graduation in any discipline with 50% for general category and 45% for SC/ST students. Duration of these courses may vary from 1 year to 3 year depending on the course.

The various courses of hotel industry would help in making students more confident. It gives a lot of essential information i.e. food and beverage operations, Accommodation operations, food costing, personality development, basic etiquettes etc.Apart from the professional degree, the hotel industry places great emphasis on excellent communication skills, good presentation skills, good listening skills, teamwork skills etc

Available Career Opportunities in Hotel Industry

• Food and Beverage: - Food and beverage department is responsible for maintaining high quality of food, food costing, managing restaurants, bars etc. This department offers many positions to students i.e. food and beverage manager, chef, steward, restaurant hostess, bartender etc.
• Housekeeping: - Housekeeping department is responsible for keeping the hotel neat and tidy. Housekeeping department requires floor supervisors, executive housekeeper, room attendants, etc.
• Front office: - Front office department is responsible for making room reservations, providing money exchange front office manager, Lobby executive, reservation agents, receptionists, bellboys etc.
• Sales and Marketing: - Sales and Marketing department is responsible for selling the hotels? facilities by keeping in touch with travel agents and tour operators.
