Computer Support Technician

The computer support technicians are responsible for the repair, upgrade and maintenance of computers, networks and peripheral equipment. The work also entails the building of new systems, hardware and software trouble shooting and telephonic assistance. The work includes network installations, running maintenance checks on computers, and the selling of computer related products. They are also involved in training customers in the correct use of computer related items.

No formal training is required although a good technical background and a high level of computer knowledge is a prerequisite. Most technicians follow certificate courses in computer maintenance, network diplomas and systems management. Ongoing training is required to keep abreast with the rapid changes in information technology.

Employment prospects for computer support technician
They may work in large companies as teams, or work on their own as contractors to small businesses.
