Cruise Ship Engineer Jobs

The Engine Department consists of all the staff who are responsible for the smooth operations of the engine and related duties. The jobs are briefly described in descending order of hierarchy below

  • Chief Engineer The responsibility of this post involves all the technical operations of the ship. This includes the electrical, engineering and the mechanical divisions. The right candidate would need about 5-6 years of experience in similar or subordinate positions on ships. He will also be required to possess a diploma from a accredited Maritime Training School and be extremely fluent in English. The salary for this post ranges between US -8700 per month depending upon the applicants experience and expertise as well as the ship.
  • First Engineer this person would be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the engineering and technical aspects of the ship under the supervisions and direction of the Chief Engineer. The right candidate would be required to have a minimum of 6 years experience in similar or subordinate positions on ships. He will need to have a diploma from an accredited Maritime school and have a very good command on English. The salary range for this position is between US and 5400.
  • Second Engineer generally the Second Engineer is responsible to deliver the same duties as the First Engineer; however since he would have lesser experience, he would be answerable to the First Engineer. The right candidate would be fluent in English, possess a diploma from an accredited Maritime School and about 3-4 years of extensive experience in a similar position or subaltern position. The salary for this position is between US and 4800, depending on the ship size and standard.
  • Third Engineer the responsibilities and duties of the Third Engineer are similar to that of the Second Engineer. The right candidate should have some 3-4 years in similar or subordinate positions on the ship. He should have a good command on English. The salary for this job is marked at US to 2900.
  • Motorman This person will be in charge of the smooth functioning of the engine (each motorman is entrusted with the maintenance of specific parts of the engine). The right candidate will need to have a diploma from an accredited Maritime school and have a good command over English. The salary range for this job is between US and 1900.
  • Fitter the person will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and cleaning of engines as well as all the mechanical equipment under the supervision of the Chief Engineer. The salary will range between US and 1900.
  • Wiper - the person in charge will need be responsible for the cleaning, painting and general maintenance of the engine room. This is an entry level position which does not need much experience; the applicant will need to have a basic knowledge of English. The salary ranges between US and 1200.
  • Chief Electrician He will be responsible for the electrical system on the ship. The applicant will be required to have 3-5 years experience in similar or subordinate positions on the ship. He should be have a good knowledge of English and possess a diploma from an accredited maritime training school. The salary earmarked for this position is US and 3900, depending on the ships standard.
  • Electrician He is supposed to be in charge of the maintenance of all the electrical systems on board the ship as well as the repairs whenever this is required. The incumbent should have a minimum 1-3 years experience and a diploma from an accredited Maritime School, and a good command on English. The salary ranges between US and 2700.
  • Chief Air Conditioning Technician the incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of the air conditioning systems on the ship. He will need to have a 2-4 years experience in similar positions or subaltern positions, and possess a diploma from an accredited Maritime school. The salary offered for this position ranges between US and 3100.
  • Air conditioning Technicians the person would be required to look after the air conditions and refrigeration systems on the ship. He would need to have experience of minimum 2-3 years and a diploma from an accredited Maritime school and good command on English language. The salary for this job ranges between US and 2800.
  • Plumber as the name indicates, the candidate would be responsible for the repair and plumbing on the ship. He will need to have a minimum experience of 2-3 years on board of any ship, and know basic English. The salary will range between and 1300.
  • Upholsterer he is the one who can upholster the furniture on the ship. He will need to know some basic English; does not need to have previous experience. The salary for this position will be between and 1300.
  • Fireman he/she will be responsible for all the safety measures and reinforcement of the same regarding fire. He/she will need to possess the requisite qualification and a certificate/diploma in a recognized fire-fighting course. The salary earmarked for this position is between and 1800 varying from ship to ship.

All the above personnel will be responsible for the overall well-being of the ship and the total satisfaction of the passengers. The ships prefer to employ a number of non-USA personnel because of the labour price fall in the market. People from non-English speaking languages will accept the comparatively less pay gladly because of the currency exchange advantage.
