How do I get a helicopter pilot license?

In order to get a helicopter pilot license, you have to have earned a private aircraft flight license from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and a safety rating by completing at least 1,500 flight hours and 250 hours of classroom instruction. Once this is achieved, you then must obtain a clear medical certificate, complete an additional 40 hours of supervised helicopter flight training, and complete a written test. You must then pass the oral test and check ride with a licensed helicopter pilot. There are several different types of helicopter pilot licenses you can try for, ranging from a student's helicopter certificate to a certified helicopter flight instructor.
