Medical Personnel Jobs on Cruise Ships
This department covers one of the most important aspects on the ship, i.e. the medical facilities. Depending on the size of the ship and the number of passengers it carries, the medical department will have on board one-three doctors, and four to five qualified nurses. On ships which have long cruises covering remote areas, the medical personnel will include a surgeon and dentist as well. These staff are recruited both through the concessionaires as well as directly by the cruise liner.
- Chief Doctor/ Physician The person recruited under this designation would be in-charge of all the medical facilities and operations on the ship. As qualification, he/she should have sufficient experience in primary care, internal and external trauma/emergency care, cardiac care, etc; a minimum of 2-3 years experience in similar or subordinate posts; Diploma from an accredited Medical School; have excellent command over English language. The salary would range between and 6400 per month.
- Doctor/physician the incumbent would be responsible for the treatment(s) of all the passengers and the crew members. The qualification required mirror the requirements of the Chief doctor, minus maybe the experience. A doctor could become eligible for the position of a Chief Doctor following 2-3 years experience as a ship doctor. The salary earmarked for this position is between and 5000 per month.
- The nurse would be responsible for assisting the doctor in treatment of the passengers and crew staff. The applicant should be a registered nurse with a minimum of 2 years experience on a ship or in a hospital. He/she should be highly experience and efficient in handling cardiac care, internal medicines and trauma; should know English very well and have an overall friendly disposition. The salary involved in this job is between and 2900.
