Set Freelance Writer Career Goals

A freelance writer career can provide you with flexibility and a steady income. In order to be successful in your freelance writing career, you are going to have to be able to set goals and work towards them. Here are a few things to consider about setting freelance writing career goals.

Getting Started

Whenever you are first getting started as a freelance writer, you are going to need to start out with modest goals. Start out slow and then work your way up towards bigger things. For example, you might want to focus on getting your very first freelance writing job. Set a goal that you are going to have your first freelance writing assignment by a certain date. Once you get that first assignment, you need to do as good of a job as you possibly can on it. At that point, you will be able to move on to other things.

Regular Work

If you do a good job on your first assignment, you are going to be able to potentially move on to more work. At that point, you need to start focusing on setting a goal of getting regular work. You might be able to specify how many assignments you would like to be able to complete on a weekly basis. Take every assignment that you get and do as good of a job as you can. This is very important if you want to be able to get steady work in the future. Eventually, you will be able to get enough work to meet your goal. Most of the time, freelance writers start out on a part-time basis. Therefore, you are going to want to decide how much you want to write on a part-time basis without interfering with your other duties.

Full-Time Writer

Once you get enough regular work, you might start thinking about becoming a full-time writer. In order to do this, you are going to most likely need several clients to keep you busy. Set another goal that you are going to get as much work as you need in order to do this as a full-time job. This amount of work is going to be different for every individual. Therefore, some writers are only going to need a few assignments a week to stay busy. Others are going to need hundreds of assignments. This means that you need to gauge how much work you can do and how well you are paid in order to set a goal.

Increased Pay

After you have started working as a full-time freelance writer, you are going to most likely want to increase the amount of money that you make. In order to do this, you are going to need to set another goal. Decide how much money you want to be able to make and then write it down as a goal. At that point, you will need to use the experience that you have gained to increase the amount of money that you make for each job. If your work is good enough, you will be able to charge more and still have plenty of work.
