Setting Career Goals for Freelance Marketing Jobs

Freelance marketing jobs can be very rewarding and challenging at the same time. If you are going to get involved in freelance marketing jobs, you need to be sure to set some career goals for yourself. Here are a few things to consider about setting career goals for freelance marketing jobs.

Freelance Marketing Jobs

Working in freelance marketing jobs can provide you with a lot of flexibility in your career. You will be able to set your own hours and be your own boss. You are also going to be able to set your own rates. This is going to give you a lot of control over your career and your working life. However, with all of this freedom comes a lot of responsibility as well. Many people that work as freelance marketers do well at first and then struggle. Typically, this is because they do not know how to set goals and stick to them. When you are working as your own boss, you are going to need to make sure that you have goals to work toward. This way, you will be able to determine if you are on your way to success or moving in the opposite direction.

As part of your career goals, you might also want to think about setting some educational goals for yourself. Many freelance marketers decide to improve their level of education so that they will be able to attract more clients. This way, they will have more credibility with potential new clients. You might want to consider setting a goal of giving your Masters degree or a doctorate in marketing as you continue your career.

Measurable Goals

You need to set some goals that are measurable for yourself. Many people that say they have career goals really only have vague statements that do not actually say anything. For example, they might say that they want to have "plenty" of marketing clients or "a lot" of business. Instead of using vague statements like this, you need to be able to clearly define what you want to accomplish. For example, you might say that you want to do $100,000 of business within the next year. You might say that you want to get 10 new clients every month. Regardless of what your individual marketing goals are, you need to make sure that you can measure your performance. This way, you will know when you actually reach the goal and you can then set a new one.

Short and Long Term

In addition to setting measurable goals for yourself, you also need to have a nice mix of short and long-term goals. Many people only set long-term goals and then they are discouraged that they are never accomplishing anything. Other people only set short-term goals and never do anything big. You need to have some smaller goals that you can publish quickly and a few bigger goals that will take some time to complete.
