What ambulance driver training is necessary?

In addition to having a clean driving record, anyone considering becoming an ambulance driver must complete ambulance driver training administered by an ambulance service or a regional approved ambulance driving safety course. This most often involves taking an online test followed by a real driving test in an actual ambulance or emergency vehicle. Each ambulance driver must be able to demonstrate that she is capable of handling the safe operation of the vehicle, at high rates of speed and under congested traffic conditions while also using ambulance equipment such as radios and lights. The driving training is most often provided by the health care or emergency services agency for which the ambulance driver will work, but this training can also be obtained by contacting a regional ambulance association.
