What are emergency medical technician certification requirements?

Emergency medical technician certification is provided by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and varies according to the level of skill an EMT is at. First Responder/EMT Basic has training to assess a patient's condition, provide trauma treatment and assist in transporting patients. EMT Intermediate certification is given for more advanced knowledge of how to treat trauma. The last level of paramedic certification is for those EMTs who can administer medication, interpret test results and perform advanced life-saving procedures. The NREMT administers tests for certification of all EMT levels. Many states also provide their own certification and testing.
