What education is needed for becoming an actor?

Perhaps one of the most effective ways of becoming an actor is taking acting classes at a college or through a community program or academy. However, acting is a career that doesn't require a great deal of formal education to land work. Many actors who never attended an acting class have still succeeded due to determination, natural talent and the inability to take "no" for an answer when seeking out roles.

However, the recommended education to become an actor is at least two years and preferably four in a reputable college acting program in a major city or entertainment area. Getting a degree in performing arts or theater is the requirement for completing such a program. In lieu of getting an acting degree, taking community classes in acting theory, performing arts, drama and theater is an acceptable way to earn a solid foundation for a great acting career.
