What is a common emergency medical technician salary?

An emergency medical technician salary can vary greatly depending on factors such as whether the EMT is employed privately or publicly, the geographic area he or she works in and the level of education. Some EMTs in rural areas work on a volunteer basis. As of May 2008, the average wage of a skilled EMT was $14.10 per hour. At the high end of the pay scale, wages were $23.77 per hour, while on the low end, they were $9.08 an hour. Those EMTs in the top 25 percent of the pay scale were in unions.
