I need some really good advice for what to do and how to dress for an interview. This is my first interview for my business to potential clients. I want to make a good impression.
I'm a writer and have a interview next week with a company who want to hire me. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks Joy |

One good tip is to reseach the company. Find out you can about the company you are interviewing. This will not only impress your potential client but it will also buils your confident.
Answer their questions, be very specific and know what your talking about. If your not sure about your answer do not lie. Getting clients is based on trust. Ask them your questions in a way they understand you and keep your guard up.
Don't let them talk you into a lower price, if you know for sure your services to them are worth more. The higher price you charge the more professional you will look. Don't go to the over extreme, just what it is worth. |

| Don't be nervous and be punctual on that day. Try to arrive 15 minutes earlier to calm you down. Be polite and look at the interviewer eyes when he/she is talking. You must try to be confident, if you are not, act as one. |

| Just remember, they're only people. They're no better than you, and it's not a life and death situation. So many people on interviews get nervous because of someone's title or position in a company. Remember that they're just people, like you, and you'll be fine. |

First of all you must realize that if you are called at an interview that means that they read your CV (resume) and/or cover letter and they liked it and they're really considering you for the job - so be confident.
Next think you must know is what the interview is in fact and what you should expect from an interview - well, an interview is in fact a test (of both or only once of the following areas: your skills / knowledge / abilities and your personality traits).
For myself when I think at a job interview I compare it with a first date - you both try to see if there's a match between you, between your expectations and possibilities or not. Remember an interview is not an inquisition, but a two-way dialog! This way you'll look like a more interested and confident person and at the same time help you understand if you really fit and want that specific job or not. Also, just like you do when you're preparing for a first date, be very careful at details - wear suitable interview clothes, be sure that your clothes and shoes are clean, that your haircut looks fine, that you are shaved (if you're a man), etc, etc... Also, just like when you're going to a first date, be sure that you come a few minutes earlier so the employer won't have to wait you; but again keep it at a few minutes and not at one hour earlier (you don't want to look desperate either).
When you are invited in first take care at handshake - a firm handshake is more appreciated than a weak one - and a lot of employers make their first impression at this point. Don't sit down before you are offered a chair.
During interview:
- when you are asked a question don't limit yourself to only "yes" or "no", but on the other side keep the answer short (30-45 seconds is best).
- be enthusiastic and self confident don't just pretend it (because if you just pretend it than your body language and your gestures will show that you're lying)
- be honest and don't lie, because any information you give now can be verified later
- don't complain about your current or former employer - no employer will appreciate this
- keep eye contact during the whole interview
- thank you for the time allocated at the end of the interview |
