My maternity leave turned into me deciding to stay home with my children for six years. I'm ready to get back into the workforce full time and need a powerful cover letter. I also don't know if I should, and how I should, address my time at home and head off any red flags for potential employers. If it should be addressed, how do I mention it, and should it be listed in the resume as well? In my opinion, stay at home moms are some of the hardest working, most patient, and best multi-taskers around. But I worry that with the employment gap in my resume, it will go right to the bottom of the pile without ever getting a face to face chance to impress them!

Hi. First of all, here's how you can cover a gap in employment in such a way in which it is not considered malevolence

Second, I can see you're very confident, you should sound like that in your cover letter and they'll be mesmerized by your skills and abilities.
You could list the period in your resume or you can offer an explanation during the interview. But it is preferable to list it. Some employers understand.

Yanna has a good bit of information there. I also think you should list it on your resume and be prepared to elaborate during an interview. Try to have your answers anticipated beofre the interview, as this helps make the interview smoother.

Once you get hired, this might be useful to you.
