I know a lot of companies make a point of hiring people of different cultures so it shows that they support diversity in the workplace-but i was surprised to find that the only people that work in my entire office are either White or Chinese and im honestly the only person who isn't and i feel like i stand out because of it and a lot of ppl have asked me where im from even though i dont have an accent and was born and raised in Canada....it makes me wonder if there may be a little discrimination that goes on during the hiring process but maybe im just making too much of it-i dont know...

Of course employers discriminate. Why else would they have such a convoluted hiring process? You get to the interview based on qualifications, experience, and credentials, all of which are easily verified or disproven. The fact they even want to talk to you proves you're at least qualified "enough" for the job.

So what other reason can there be for interviewing you, getting you to talk, other than to get you to say something incriminating that they can use as an excuse to NOT hire you. Face it: Employers hire whom they like, period.

So there's that. But there's this, as well:

All those "attachments" regarding race, gender, veteran status, and so forth? I'm supposed to believe that even though, as you say, companies are bragging about their "diversity," I'm to believe that they would never "use" that information in deciding whom to hire and who to refuse. Sure. Wink. Wink.

And when an ad states "we encourage minorities and women to apply," am I to seriously belief that's not a tacit admission that such people will be their "preferred" applicant?

I've been on the inside enough. Employers DO discriminate. They just get to call it "affirmative action."

And that's fine with me. I don't want to be anywhere where I'm not wanted for who I am and what I can contribute....
