First day back to work after those interviews and declining the job in St Louis. Have to call Chicago tomorrow and do the same thing [decline]. After today, I don't know about quitting but I do not feel like I belong there either.
My boss and some others adults who are on an equal level with me, and a few from other departments within the store, were all overjoyed that i decided to stay and relayed that to me. My boss was so excited! It fealt good to know that those who appreciate you are the'elite' who know what you do is important.... Many of the kids I have trained were excited to hear that I would be staying and were asking about my trip, etc. Some were confused but when I told them my reasons they agreed and said they were glad to welcome me home. And I have to admit that I missed them too even though I swear they are the reason I am not having children
Now, there's this small group that seems to be emerging...it's almost like there's a litttle 'coup' out to get me that wishes I had left. These people are on an associate level of my equal or even above my rank, and they are digging, shoving, pushing, prodding....trying to find out everything they can that could possibly advance them in some way [from a former post, the guy who told me to my face that he hoped I would quit so he could be important], an older associate who seems angry at me because she tends to live vicariously thru my experiences [I am not sure if it is disappointment or contempt, but she treated me like shit openly today], and another who is so tightly interwoven to my personal life in a weird way [she is close to my ex's mother and relays every detail of my life to his mother, so that the mother can cause rifts in what is still an unsteady friendship]....you get it. The one supervisor is on vacation now but she is an overbearing mother and I figure she will call/show up tomorrow just to grill me. She only worries about losing me because I do all the stuff she hates, and clean up all the messes.
Then there's just the rude behavior. I'm tired of answering questions.
Any feedback? What do I do with these rude and difficult ones? |

I think you might already be aware of these pieces of advice:
http://www.cvtips.com/types_of_difficult_people.html
But I think the best thing you could do is not revenge, is not igniting some sort f war. The best thing is to be the best in your branch. That's all. They suffer because of this ) And I think you won't have any problems, lexa, as your boss and most of the people that really matter are with you. I've read the post about your decision. I think it is a wise one. And it's time to make the most of your job, your potential, your skills, in order to motivate yourself towards all the good, valuable and truly important things in one's life: building your identity, securing your safety and offering you a decent, even better life.
Mind them not!!! |

Thank you for the encouragement. Sometimes I need help to keep myself in line. You are right, I will get better results by doing so.
By the way, "Mother" did visit today and I had to dismiss myself to go to the restroom briefly for a fit of laughter. She admitted that the thought of me leaving terrified her and even apologised for the recent meanness she has been dumping on me. She promised to be better to me.
The *others* just got ignored today. I acted like I had not heard them a couple of times and other than that I just flashed a big grin and no answers.
Looking forward to Wednesday. They are sending me to some zone meeting where I will be with the head of HR and might be able to rub elbows for an internal promotion. I got reminded of that today with a nod and a wink..... |

My title is very general. "Office staff/supervisor." I work in one of the largest grocery chains in the US. My job is to run the training for new hires, supervise the front end operations, make the customer service center run smoothly, and do accounting. I generally fill any holes in the store, sometimes working as a cashier or stocking milk or something also. I am a district representative to a couple of committees and I am the head of the store safety committee. Plus any big promotions or advertising needs rest in my hands, like when the newest Harry Potter book came out I had a few special projects and helped plan a fun night for kids. Our store has more than 100 employees in it.
Some days I don't think I could ever get paid enough, but other days I love it. All I have done so far this week is train new hires.Tomorrow is a big district meeting and I get to sit with people a lot older than me all day long and get fed gourmet food while I rattle off a few business proposals and do some collaboration. Preparing my presentations now... |

That's so nice, lexa. No wonder they have managed to get envious at you I'm talking about some co-workers of some which you supervise. You seem to be a "one man band" over there.
It's really important to take part in as many projects as possible, and as various as possible. Your management skills are shown and you can prove to be a great team leader, not to mention the creative part. I thi8nk you'll do great and if you ever feel you are underpaid, you could ask for bonuses anytime. |

I never thought of myself as a one man band, but that is pretty truthful. There's not a lot I don't do. Tonight I was working on fixing one of the registers and had the bottom half of my body hanging out of the cubbyhole.
Unfortunately, I dot get the privilege of bonuses because we are strictly a union workplace and our pay schedule is set. But my boss has expressed her regrets about it, and I do get paid for what I do out of the work environment just like I was there. So any paperwork I bring home, I get paid for. We keep this arrangement quiet. There's only a couple people who seem to get these "assignments" and she does what she can to shove me in the limelight at corporate, and give me projects/duties she knows are important. I am just glad the boss isn't blind to me and what I do; it's the smart asses and ones who act jealous that make me mad.
i did lose my temper with one of them: told them to quit griping and telling me I could do better when they obviously have no initiative to change their own situation, especially since they seem so much more unhappy than I am.
I like being the youngest, I can still play sweet and innocent! |

LOL, lexa.....
Been there, done that...still doing it....
There are so many difficult people to deal with at my job I really don't need my colleagues to stay on my ass every day. I'm telling you sincerely that I have tried many ways to take these mosses off me, lol, and found out that the best way to irritate them and make them die indeed is by being better and better at what I do everyday. They die when I come with an idea at the end of the week, when we have our weekly meeting with the higher staff. They die when I smile at them, and most of all THEY DIE WHEN I OFFER THEM MY HELP.
And this is how I handle them.
But good for you cause I see you're pretty aware of what goes around you and that's great! |
