My better half is 32 and coming to a cross roads. Actually it's more like his current path is coming to a dead end. Anyway he has a wonderfull oportunity to do anything yes ANYTHING he likes!! Needless to say he doesn't know what his dream job might be. I'll tell you about him and maybe you can help.

He likes:
motorbikes
snowboarding
being outside (walking, camping etc)

He is qualified in motor mechanics and engineering to level 3

He is interested in the planet. How it all works. He watches Planet Earth etc.

He is also passionate about music, dance and rock. Favorite band is Radiohead.

I can support us so a full time education course is no problem if thats what it takes. I love my job and so should everyone!!

Please help. Any ideas? Thanks XX Very Happy

Great name. Nice to know somebody's explaining things to the heathen. So many of my best friends are furry.

Your better half could do eco-tourism, any outdoor thing, and could fix the bus while he was at it.

The money spinner is likely to be engineering. The demand is enormous. Actually the outdoor approach might be a real positive asset, able to work anywhere is a major plus. Some people aren't too hot on site, and an experienced, enthusiastic outdoor worker is a relative rarity.

If a dream job is wanted, some of the eco-projects would be best. It's possible to build up a good, integrated CV with a range of skills covering a wide area of expertise. Being familiar with the issues will be appreciated by all concerned.

Qualifications and practical experience are the top of the shopping list. Suggest checking out the sort of jobs which lead in whichever direction he wants to take it.

Did a quick search for you, environment+engineering:

There are degree courses, and it's pretty fascinating stuff, definitely not going to get boring. You could check out what's available locally. Some of these things would figure out as doctorates. I'd say you could have a lot of fun.

Good luck

Sounds like he might do okay in something along the lines of environmental science. This is a big field right now that is going to be continuously expanding in the coming years, and if he has a fascination with nature then this may be the career he will not become bored with.

A few years of schooling may lead him to the greatest career move ever. Encourage him to consider schooling to lead him to the career of his dreams.

Very Happy Thanks everyone! I'll let him know. He was kind of thinking engineering or environmental science. I thought engineering might be boring but looks like I'm wrong!! That would help us "get in" to New Zealand too. Wink also I might be working at a Uni soon so it would be handy for him to study.

Thanks again Smile
