Hi. I am returning to work with a prior experience of 7 years as Senior Analyst in IT industry. I took break to spend some quality time with my daughter. Now that she has started going to fulltime school, I am thinking of returning to work. My questions are: After 7 years of experience would the career break matter? Do I list my career break on my resume? What do I do about the 24 month period I wasn't working?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

No matter what, they are going to want to know about the gap. And you had a good reason for your employment gap, so just be honest. You were not fired or anything like that; you were taking care of your family.

sonadong-

I have a friend who had a similar experience in the IT industry. This may or may not apply to your case, but I think it's worth mentioning.

His problem wasn't the gap in the CV, it was his knowledge base. Over his extended absence, the industry had moved on, and adopted the new class of systems. (This was pre-Web 2.0)

He'd been a senior staff member, and he was badly out of synch in regard to the new systems. He couldn't find a position, for that reason.

At your level, this may not be as much of a problem, but you would know how competitive positions are at that level.

I would suggest, on principle, however, that you check out any positions beforehand, to avoid waste of time and disappointment.

Otherwise, your gap, and the reasons for it, should be pretty acceptable in any modern workplace. As a matter of fact, if those reasons aren't accepted, I think you would find that those employers may not be too helpful with family situations, and better avoided, with a young family.
