Had a look on the Department of Immigration site, couldn't find anything useful about "unskilled" workers.

As you probably know, employer sponsorship is available for skilled workers.

Do you have, or can you get, a trade certificate, of any sort? That'd save quite a lot of bother, like an electrical trades certificate, or something.

It's quite possible that they're not too sure what a Fire Alarm Engineer is.

I doubt very much if you could just walk in off the street and do that job. There'd have to be some sort of certification. If you can call it "electrical trade" or something else that rings a bell with the bureaucratic mind, it might be enough.

As a matter of fact, we're screaming for skilled tradespeople, so if you can produce something resembling a trade certificate, you'd probably be in pretty quickly. UK and Australian certificates usually have mutual recognition, so there shouldn't be much of an issue.

On the other side of the coin, if your CVs hit the right spot, an Aussie employer might know how to explain to Immigration what you do.

It's probably called something like "Safety Systems engineer".

Actually, if you've had anything to do with Security Systems, that might help, too. You just need to establish which kind of trade you're in, and from there Immigration should be able to fill in the blanks.

Awww...everyone on here tends to be on the nice side, so don't worry too much!

As for getting yourself a visa, I do know that there are many different types [more than seventy!] and that you cannot work on a visitor's visa. So, you might get into researching the different kinds of visas and see what type you need first before seeking any kind of sponsorship.
