Find out who your upper HR people are and make sure you address any correspondence to them personally. You do not want it to look like you have no idea who they are. Most likely this would offend them and compromise any chances you have of a successful internal interview. And just because you have been with the company for a while does not mean that you know everything about them--still do your homework! Most people get overly confident and cocky with internal interviews and this tends to be what costs them in the end.
