About four months ago I was fired from my first real job, I was a police recruit in a police academy. The reason I was fired was because it was believed that I was attempting to cheat on a retest examination. I tried resigning, but was told that they what my employment record to reflect this situation. Regardless of what I say now, it's on my record that I was dismissed for "conduct unbecoming". I'm a 24 yrs. old and have my bachelor's in Justice Studies. Law enforcement has always been a dream of mine, but I am unsure if I can still follow this career path. I have put out many job applications over the past 4 months and have heard back from exactly 1 place, I was offered the job but it's definitely not what I what to do and is not offering the pay I need to survive on. My question is will this issue you keep me out of the criminal justice field, I otherwise have a clean background. Also I am curious what other career fields I can move towards, even though I am lacking professional experience and have my termination on my record? Any help or suggestions would be great, I desperate for help.

Well, let's see:

You're twenty-four with a Bachelor's degree and were "only" a "recruit" which means, as you said, you didn't even finish the training, right?

So why bother even mentioning this to future employers? They don't need to know and you don't need to tell them. You are, in all truth, just now "starting out in the real world," are you not? So file this away under a great lesson in life, forget about it, never mention it to future employers, and keep on moving forward.

Being only somewhat facetious here, "You have the right to remain silent," don't you? Well, think of this as a real-life of example of "everything you say can and most damned certainly will be used against you"!

Randy is right, you were in training and were dismissed, you might want to take your chances and try applying without disclosing this previous job and see what happens. You might have someone not check and find it, and be ok. Odds are good you will have better results this way.
