Hi there,
My girlfriend is a bit stuck job-wise at the moment. She's working for a nursery looking after children but is not happy there and wants a new job, but she's looking for something that may pay more. She's not sure how to go about getting a secretarial/administrative office job without any experience in these areas.
Could anyone recommend an approach with tailoring CVs, or maybe courses that could be an advantage?
Many thanks |

Yeah, entry level is possible, and she could also, (if she can organize the time) do some basic studies in admin at a local community college.
That sort of training is also very handy in getting a very wide range of portable skills. The risk here is that she may find herself locked in to this sort of job, and not be able to move.
Any sort of progression from where she is will require some sort of training, and the basics must come first.
It's not a particularly quick way out, but it's a definite way out.
CV-handling: The job may be a drag, but the work is, however, useful in proving her ability to deal with responsibilities.
Child care is a minefield of liabilities, and someone who can do the job and understand the responsibilities is a definite winner from that angle. That job may be dire, but it can at least go on the CV as an asset.
Depending on age, she might get a decent shot at entry level in admin, but even if that works, be prepared for the extra training, because at some point it will need to be done. |
