Before the layoff, my wife and I both worked second shift jobs (3pm - 11pm). My wife doesn't drive, so I drop her off and pick her up, and everything worked out perfectly. Out of nowhere, her company lays off 200 people, my wife being one of the unlucky 200. This was 2 weeks ago, and they pretty much talked like there were no plans of a recall.
We filed for unemployment first thing Monday morning.
Today, she gets a call from the company that laid her off, offering her a different job, making $1.40 less per hour, and on a weird 12 hour shift that would be from 7am - 7pm.
My question is if she turns this offer down, will she lose unemployment benefits?
I've been told if you get laid off and the company has a recall, you would lose your benefits if you turn it down; however, would that rule apply if they offer you something completely different from what you had before you were laid off? Mainly the cut in pay, I was hoping, would keep her from losing her benefits, but honestly it's the schedule they wanted her to work that would cause the most problems.
Hope to hear from someone soon. |
