Hi,
I want to leave my job, but how do I tell the boss? I’ve been at working as a cashier at a local store for the past three years. It has been great so far because I was in high school and the hours were good, but now that I’m in college I think it is time for a career change. The problem is that the boss is kind of my friend now and I don’t know how to tell them I want to leave my job.
I don’t know what I want to do after I quit, I just know I’m bored! Can someone please help me figure out how to tell the boss? I was thinking of maybe sending him a resignation letter so I’m still on good terms with him in case I need a reference from him later.

Write out a termination letter mixed with a letter of admiration and gratitude for all you have learned over the past three years while with the company, and hand it to him personally. Be prepared for a discussion to go with it, and your boss is most likely goign to be upset that you are leaving. Maybe if the reason you are leaving is found out, an offer to change the nature of your job will be extended also, so be prepared for that to happen too.
