Hello,
I am from Mauritius and would very soon like to apply abroad for a job in the IT Sector.
I would like to have a small review of my current CV and some tips so that i can improve it. This is not my first CV, but this is a CV that i will be using for the first time to apply for a Job, since during my previous and current jobs i didn't use any CV to get employed.
Thank you all in advance for your help.
here is the HTML Page that presents all the images

Hello lexa,
Thank you very much for your review on my CV.
I followed the link that you gave me and read about "CV length", i don't like to mix up things and when i read something i want it to clearly separated, which is why my CV is now 7 page length (i separated my different job experience with a page break ) ? do you think i could be penalized somehow for the lengthiness or does the way i presented things auto satisfy the number of pages of the CV ?
The CV is not quiet completed yet, there is a Goal (Ambitions and future positions) section and also an Extra Information (Language spoken, related small course that i had maybe, i haven't though how and which data i need to put in this section) section that needs to be added, since i am both English and French speaking/writing and i think this can be quiet a good argument for some particular job market. |

Good CV, well laid out, particularly for your line of work.
Not wanting to nitpick, but someone else might: This doesn't necessarily have to go into the CV, but could be required in an application.
Re:
HTML and XHTML, and Javascript: Can you be a bit more specific on these generic types, beyond SQL? You don't have to say much, but some sort of qualifier might be required, because you're talking about skill levels.
It's more a matter of what you were doing, rather than what you were doing it with. Like, if the question wasn't can you use these things, but at what level, and for what.
We encourage targeting with CVs, because a One Size Fits All version usually doesn't cover the specifics of a job application.
That's the only weak spot, but if you're in competition for a position with someone competent, at your own level, the visible degree of expertise is the basis of comparison by the employer. Someone saying slightly more would have an advantage. Even if it's only a line or so in the cover letter, showing your skills, it would cover that point.
Check out criteria for applications, contact the employer, and sound them out on what they want for the position. You've probably got the skills, but you need to make sure they're in no doubt about that.
Length: Your CV looks long, but it's spread out. It's only a few hundred words. I'd think anyone looking at it would have to agree it's hard to put that much information more briefly, and it's all relevant. It can be tailored to the application, anyway.
Goal should also speak to your intended career path, so you're backing up your applications with clear motivation for the position. Extra Information won't hurt at all. Being bilingual is definitely an asset in the Euro job market and elsewhere, even in China, where they're looking for bilingual speakers. |

Thank you for your review and pointing me out some of the weak spot on my CV.
I'll make use of 2 version of this the CV then, depending on the position i might apply for.

One with the generic types as is and the other with more specific information about the generic types: maybe textual figures (Intermediate ,Experienced, Expert) or numbers (Years) to be able to have an appreciation of these skills.

To answer this, i will have to create a specific section that will mention the level and what i have been doing with this technologies, i wonder if that could cause to a bit of duplicity of information since i can't really put in in the area of expertise section, there is far too much information to make it there. Maybe mention it before "Professional Experience". But I'll see, there much be a good way to put this in.
I will check out the criteria you pointed out to me.
Again many thanks for your time reviewing my CV. |
