I know this sounds like a really weird question but here goes...I have been unemployed for almost 2 years - I have a ton of experience and education but my job history shows that I have moved around a lot - Never really fired, but moved from spot to spot. Is there ANY way a previous boss or employer could, in ANY way, post my name on some kind of "do not hire" database? Coule he/she make something up about me (Fired because of theft let's say) and publically distribute that untruth? It just seems odd that I have gotten about 10 interviews after sending hundreds of resumes - Unless my resume is really that awful...Thanks for your advice.

Are you using this persons name as a reference ?
Is the industry you work in or the geographical area you are applying in very small ?

References aren't included on my resume but they are when I fill out an application - One of the references has retired from where we worked together but I am confident he would speak ill of me. I'm in a HUGE metro area so no,it's not small. But, like I said, no references on my initial resume...Does that help?

Most employers cannot really write anything too offensive about anyone nowadays as it is defamation of character.

Without be offensive the reason why your frequent moving pattern may bne a hindrance is that it makes you look nomadic and that you are only there for a short spell before picking up sticks again.

What i woulds suggest is looking at temporary agencies as their contracts are short and it is a great way of getting back into the job market and building some experience.

www.fusejobs.co.uk are excellent if you are based in London as they specialize in getting people into entry level positions.

Good luck

Going temp is a great suggestion to getting back in the market - and your employer can't publish things like that but people do talk so things could get round if you're in a small industry, small town/city or 'everyone knows everyone' in your industry.

I have a friend who fell out with her boss (PR company in London) because she wouldn't sleep with him and is only just regaining credibility after several years struggling to find work.

I'd also suggest getting your CV/Resume looked at - just in case - as there may be some improvements to enhance your chances - Free CV or Resume Review Clinic
