One of my co-workers is constantly sick and doesn't come to work often. And when she does come to work, she a reason to get out of what she is suppose to do.
She always manages to get her way! It puts extra work on everyone else. How shall we deal with this? |

Yup, know you feeling. I am sure few of us here have that experience too.
Here's what you can do:
1. When she's sick, did she submit medical certificate? (Hope you company do this practice). If she did, verify the cert, called the gp or doctor and find out.
2. Have the superior discuss with her on job responsibilities. Come out with the list of j.d (job descriptions) and ask if she will have any problem with them. If she shows discontent, she seems to have no commitment on the job, so just ask her to resign from her post.
3. Next time she gives excuses, have it documented and ask her why she can't do the task. If the excuse is unacceptable, slap her with first warning letter.
4. If thing reoccurs, repeat no. 3. (second warning)
5. On the 3rd occassion, you can already terminate her.

I can see the topic is quite old but maybe someone else would find it useful as well...
Personally, I wouldn't do anu of the work she is supposed to do. Even more, I would suddenly get sick myself and ask her to do my work and see what she says. I bet she will not accept or find more poor excuses.
The best thing to do is report her. That is if she is doing this on purpose and repeats the deeds many times. |
