I do not know whether any of you had this type of problem - but this is what happened to me and I need some bailing out ideas FAST. While applying to a favorite company I quoted a higher salary than they could offer and was not short-listed. At the second interview, learning from past experience, I rather under-quoted. Judging from their disposition I will get slightly more than my present salary even inspite of the "adjustment" I did.

Unfortunately, I got a third offer from a small organization which pays almost twice than my present salary. My heart is set to join the second job offer. Can I now, that I have another offer in hand which pays almost double, re-negotiate my salary agreement? Otherwise how to bring up the topic of salary raise after we verbally settled it? Is this ethical? Is there any honorable way out where I can stay in my favorite job and still benefit from a high pay?

Once you came to an agreement is hard to change something, but not impossible - since you play a little bit more risky since you have a backup solution (high-paid jopb at the samll company you mentioned).

I think the best way to solve this is to have a new discussion and explain exactly your position (without giving the other company name at that moment, but mentioning that if you'll come to a deal with them and remain with them you'll disclose it). If they want to keep you they'll make you a better offer.

Radio, you can go back to the second company & be honest with them. Tell them you have received a higher offer, but you prefer to work for them.... etc. You may want to let them know that you are geniune & if they offer you a higher salary that you are happy with, that you will not go back to the third company asking them for more money.

If the second company is interested in you, they will probably offer you a higher salary.

Only downside, if the second company doesn't like your approach, you may not be shortlisted with them in the future.
