I have been recently been promoted to team leader, I am from the UK and my team is spread over Asia and the UK. I am quite young (2Cool and am not sure if I am up to the challenge! I am confident I can lead my team here in the Uk, but I am worried on how to control my team members in India. What are the cultural differances in trans national team work that I should be aware of ?

There are four components to successful teamwork are

Commitment to Succeed
Communication
Emotional Competency
Self-Control
Commitment to Succeed

but that is easy on paper, if your team members are half way across the globe not all four are easily implimentable ! The cultural differances in trans national team work, are my biggest worry. Differences in attitude and working practices I have only been exposed to British colleagues and I am not sure how to react to my new team members and how they will react to me !

First, and most importantly, you need to accept new challenges head on or you may jeopardize your job. Sad Jobs are never secure and there is always someone else that would love to fill your shoes.

I would approach your employer and ask to take a class in cultural diversity. It will help you to handle issues a lot easier given the cultural differences.

If you are truly unhappy, then you need to hire a career coach ... someone who will help you to discover excites you so you can be happy in a career.
