What is the standard minimum pay and the maximum hours of work allowed for in America and Britain?

The lowest allowable wage in America is around $5 while the maximum work hours are around 38-45 depending on the job type.

The minimum pay in Britain is around 5 UK Pounds but will go up in the near future for people 22 years and older, while it is around 4.40 UK Pounds for the age group of 18 to 21 years and the maximum work hours per week is around 48.

Current the US federal minimum wage is 5.15 per hour, and there is no maximum hours limit.

However, this might vary by State or City and/or how old you are. Federal wage and hour laws limit the number of allowable hours for certain ages. I think 17 and younger.

UK Minimum Wages applicable from 1st October 2006:

# The main rate for workers aged 22 and over is currently set at £5.35 an hour.

# The development rate for 18-21 year olds is currently set at £4.45 an hour

# The development rate for 16-17 years olds. This rate is £3.30 an hour. (a 10% rise - very good)

# On 1 October 2006 the rate of the accommodation offset will increase to £29.05 per week (£4.15 per day). The current rate is £27.30 per week (£3.90 per day)
