| I'm not sure that this is the right place to post this but here it goes anyway... All of the jobs that I have come across lately say that they want to do both a background check and a credit check. I'm wondering how far back the background check goes? I'm also wondering what they think of people with poor credit? I've heard that the background check goes back 10 years. While I'm not so worried about the background check because there's nothing in it that they'll find, the credit check does bother me a bit. I have rather poor credit and fear that I won't get a job because of that. I find that to be a bit discriminatory though. What do you think? |

If the credit and/or background check happen, they will happen after you are offered the job. If something DOES come up, you will hopefully be given a chance to explain it. Don't try to approach it ahead of time, because they may find out about it and you don't want to lessen your chances of getting the job.

| From what I know, nowadays companies make such background and credit check when they have to choose from a group of selected people 1-2 for the job.I really don't believe that you have to be affraid by a credit check because it hasn't nothing to do with your future job unless it is one that involves a lot of money on your hand. |

Background check on your criminal record are life long. Criminal records are public information and until you get it sealed or expunged, anyone can look at it. You can only get 1 conviction expunged, and it must not deal with drugs, violence, or sex offender.
Credit checks go back 7 years. Each company decides for itself how much weight the want to put on the information that they find.
Searching every single public record database during a background search employee check can be exhausting and time consuming, but there is an easier way to do these searches. An information aggregator is a business that maintains their own private database with information that is retrieved from numerous different public record databases. This can make a background search employee investigation much easier for you to do. A single database is a lot quicker and easier to search than several different ones, and this means you will get results and critical information about risks involved much faster. A heck that uses the database of an information aggregator is more accurate as well, because there is less chance of missed information. This means less chance of a higher risk that you are unaware of, which could end up costing you more than just money or material possessions. |
