Just wondering...

I hear a lot of people talking about earning money from the Internet by doing surveys, writing opinions and doing mystery online shopping.

Has anybody tried any of these and did they work for you? I can't imagine it's possible to earn a living in this way but how much could a person reasonably expect to earn?

I wrote for two review sites for a couple of years and earned about £200 all in all which I think worked out at about £1 a review. That's a lot of work for not very much money. As money's made 'per read', you also have to spend time participating in the community so that others know who you are and read your work. It's great fun if you just want somewhere to write without needing to earn money from it but if you're after an income, forget it. There are far better alternatives out there.

Although I haven't taken part in a lot of the survey sites myself, I know people who have and they've earned about £50 in 6 months. Again, it isn't going to pay the bills but it's a bit of extra pocket money you wouldn't otherwise have had and it only takes a few minutes at a time to fill out a survey.

I also knew a lady who did lots of online mystery shopping and while there was a certain amount to be earned, again, it wasn't possible to make a living at it. She combined it with 'real life' mystery shopping though, and that way she managed to get a reasonable income. You'd have to sign up with lots of different companies to be able to make enough to live off, but these companies know that everybody does that.

Hi!
I'm interested in working on the internet from home myself...the only thing is :if only a small community knows the results of your job online or not even that , who will be interested - and I talk about serious jobs - to hire you Question

Maybe it can work sometimes (although I am quite skeptic). But you can't gain a fortune on Internet. you still have to have a "normal" job.
And I don't know if a potential employer will consider this work as a plus on your CV.

yes, its definatly not worth trying to make a living off the internet, i'd recommend trying to find a real job, and then just using the internet to make a little bit of cash on the side to buy yourself some presents every now and then.

Im a member of a few survey sites, if you want i'd give you the addreses, but they only make me about £40 a year in amazon vouchers, and some money.

It depends more on what you get into on the internet... ie web design, online stores....etc. Most would take time to start earning some money.

Best way is to research & possibly try to make sure it is successful and to see how much money you can make from it. In the meantime, stay in your normal job.

yes certainly setting up your own online store could potentially generate alot of money without such high costs that creating and offline company (staff and work area etc.) there is even a website where you can design tshirts and they will make them all for you, and you can make profit on them (cafepress).

But things like website design is very profitable but still you could do the exact same thing in real life and get a much better pay.

I read with interest all the ideas about making money, or not making money on the internet. Well, I am 'having a go' at it, I am retired, so I get a small pension and I am not putting much at risk. I have designed a couple of blogs and a domain name website (all a bit amateurish at present) wherein I will put a couple of affiliate adverts and also some adsense ads
(google contextual ads) Of course, my main problem is that because it seems to take ages to get on search engines etc. noone is looking at my site, so I just have to be patient. I have learnt about pinging and blogging, (ie. many feeds and links to other sites ) which keeps ones site busy and advises the search engines that something is 'happening' with the website....however, I wait in hope that I may earn a couple of dollars.

I am a proficient typist have been typing for 30 years so I am putting feelers out to be able to do typing at home, but it is difficult to get sometimes.
However, small bites, as they say, Rome was not built in a day.

I've tried to find this kind of jobs myself, but the truth is that most offers are scams. I'm talking about online surveys and all....they offer you the deal, they promisse you the money, you will work on the respective surveys and the money will not come in the end.

I do not advice you to work on the internet, but I can tell you to try. Try freelancing for example, there are a lot of sites that actually so that. Or you can try joining a company in which the employees work with the internet...

Here, I have created a site that lists many various ways you can make money on the internet. [admin edit]

The survey sites I have listed are all legitimate (I've been paid) and free to join. There are a lot more that I haven't listed yet. Do not pay to join survey sites!

The 3 sites listed on my homepage are of the paid to complete offers or pay to sign up (PTSU) sites will be your best and fastest earners.

There's also a section I wrote describing how to get higher rankings in search engines. If you have a website and want more traffic I suggest reading it.

Also, there's a page listing many, many companies that pay to advertise on your site.

Enjoy! I would appreciate any feedback you have about my site ~ whether you liked it or not or suggestions for improvement (don't worry I have thick skin).
