Hello everyone, hope somebody out there can shed a light on this. I recently moved from the aviation industry to work in this hotel and since then I have been completely clueless about what goes on. The most recent one is this. I am the supervisor on my department and recently the director moved to another hotel so the position became vacant. For 8 weeks I worked as the interim Director and showed great interest in applying for the position but was denied. Now, they hired a new director and told me they want me to train this new director?! Anybody has any idea of why they did this? Why are they asking me to train my new boss?

This thing happens from time to time in large companies.I believe that they've encarghed you to train the new boss because you accumulated some expeirence in the field in these 8 weeks. The question is why they didn't choosed you?My opinion is that they've considered your cv not good enough for the job.

I have been involved in a situation like that before. It can be really frustrating. The situation I was in, I did not submit a resume or even apply for the job. I was already doing the job, so I didn't see a need to do those things; until they brought in my "new" boss and I had to train him.

Did you submit a resume and formally apply for the job? The company may not have considered you if you did not do this; if you did they may have considered your lack of experience a mark against you. Even so, the person you're training doesn't sound to be more qualified than you?

It could also be a possibility that the person you're training has connections with someone higher in the company. This person may have been picked for the spot regardless of other applications.

So...yu're saying they want to replace you? Or is this just to train him and you'll both have such a job? It's weird though. Yes, he made you train him because you have the experience but the question is whether he will keep you too.

He will not be kept in the same position like he was before "the new boss's training".I believe that he will be offered the same job that had before becomming a boss for 8 weeks.Unless the company noticed that he has potential and they will offer him a better job.

Cip may be right...usually, on trains another one because the first one is better than the second. But Rookie here said he has tried to apply for the position and he was denied so I kinds strongly doubt they will hire him on a higher job. There are interests and interests and after all, he might not have the specific education background (marketing something something) to become a director. I can't give you a straight answer, I guess it really depends on how much the boss likes you in the end.

So this situation that Rookie encountered happened because he is a decent worker and didn't "kissed" his boss, that's what are you trying to say lilo? I hate these bosses who believe that the best employes are those who are "kissing" them.I believe that a boss should think first about the companies wealth and health and after that about his.

Oh, nono...I was just referring to the fact that when an employer shows himself worthy of a position, he might as well get it, even if he is not actually qualified for that job...but he's good at it. See, we're talking in here without knowing the situation entirely...so...it's kinda difficult.
What you're saying about bossed waiting for they asses to be sc rubbed, you're right...there are so many of them. But I have observed something while I was doing my job as a journalist....The bosses of the big companies do not allow themself the luxury of having ther asases kissed and forget about their responsabilities....And I kinda like this.
However, with the small companies and institutions like the Hospital, the Police...the things have not changed and this is quite sad.

I wouldn't be unnecessarily pessimistic. Maybe they just headhunted this guy, who may well have experience in the field, and they just want you to introduce him to the particular environment of your hotel. They obviously think enough of you to have had you acting up anyway. I'd advocate helping as much as you can and cultivate a good working relationship. You now have a real opportunity to flourish - this guy will be looking to you for help and advice - go make your mark.
