Hi

I just joined the site earlier today, ironically while at work. I graduated from a prominent university in South Africa with a Bsc. Environmental Science. That was in 2005.Since then I've been travelling and looking for a job in my field (on and off). I'm now teaching English in South Korea, for lack of a better idea.

But I'm tired of working for companies I don't care about and gaining experience in a fields that don't really interest me.

So basically I've been searching the net over the last few months for some kind of 'break' into marine biology. There seem to be so many opportunities and paths to take that I'm lost and don't really know where to begin. One link leads to another which leads to another until I've forgotten where I began. Does anybody else feel like this?

Ive started a book where I write down everything I've done in the day and the people I've emailed - that definitely helps.

Anyway, thats where I'm at at the moment.

Take it easy everybody, and good luck to us all!

Ross

Environmental science....sound good, sounds nice, sound...RARE....But not necessarily.

First of all, I understand your problem...not finding something to fit your profile and expectations like a glove. And it sometimes becomes frustrating, but there's no need to lose hope. You are inside a web, a labyrynth you feel you can't get out of because the internet doesn't have the necessary correct information about this type of jobs. I really think you are searching in the wrong place.

Why not try to contact a company in a direct way? I'm so sorry I cannot give you something palpable, I know almost nothing about your domain...But I have the experience of "online job search". I found my job by going directly into a company's employment desk.

Marine biologist....how about approaching an aquarium?
Here's something I hope you find of great use:

Good luck!
