Hi all, can people please read my cv and give some suggestions on where I might find good jobs? I'd like to be using my IT qualification but it isnt very easy to find jobs willing to take a rookie. I live in England in Bristol by the way and I'm 18 (just out of college).

Quote:

I recently finished my second and final year of a National Diploma in IT at Bristol college, in which I should receive 3 C’s. I chose to go to college rather than study A levels as I enjoyed IT and wanted to study it in detail. Before college I went to Churchill Community school where I studied English literature and language, Maths, Science, French, History, Art, Religious Studies and IT. I received C’s in all the above GCSE’s except French, in which I received an E, and IT, in which I received a D.

During school, I took work experience at a stationary shop, dealing with stock taking and re-ordering on the computer and going on deliveries. I also went to a architects company and learned about the processes and aspects of their work.

I speak Japanese at a conversational level and am very competent with computers.

My interests include Japanese which I study twice a week, a night class at Bristol University and with a private teacher on a Sunday afternoon. I also am interested in computers and martial arts, in which I have studied Tae Kwon do and Aikido.

my CV is much better set out than that but it gives you the idea. I've applied to a couple of IT support jobs which have said they are looking for someone with good telephone manner and IT literate (I'm sure I qualify for that) but then they call up and change what they want, saying they are really looking for someone with lots of customer support experience.

Hi,

From the top of my head:

Why not volunteer with one of these telephone support lines.
Like "beat the loneliness" or "conversation for old people".
They can be called differently in your region.
You can get some solid telephone experience in such a job.

Have you gone to any interviews so far ?

Hi, you need to try and get some experience within the IT industry. Sometimes that means taking a lower salary role but slowly build up your skills. A good starting role for someone with your experience would be an IT support technician. A good level of communication would be required including telephone support. London has many companies looking for this type of employee.

Have you tried the job boards such as monster and reed? They're worth a go Smile
