I’ve got my resume everywhere I can stick it. I just posted it on Craigslist not too long ago and managed a couple of calls. Also, while on Craigslist, look at the job openings there; many of them won’t be anyplace else and they ARE local jobs. You can try Monster and CareerBuilder, but half of those jobs are national companies and recruiters I think.

A lot of good stuff here. I’ve put my resume in just about every door I can find. I have experience, but the field I am in is down right now so not many jobs are opening.

If your resume isn’t getting very far, you might want to try getting help with the resume. Like L. Steele said, the cover letter gets the employer to the resume, but it’s the resume that gets you to the interview. If the resume looks half done or not thought out, they take that as a showing of how you might be in person. If a resume writer can help, get one.

Here is one job search tip I can tell you that I wish more people did. In the businesses I’ve owned I’ve come across two things; lack of professionalism and people who do not treat the job search as a job. If you don’t have a job, you need to spend at least five hours a day looking. And you have to be professional about it. Don’t go looking for work with dirty or torn clothes. Be alert and look alive and like you’re trying to get a job.

Hi, I'm new to this forum.

I don't agree that you should worry about recruiters not having your salary at the top of their priority list.

The higher the salary package you get, the more commission they get, which means that you both want the same thing in this regard.
