For the last 3 months, I've put in tons of applications with companies and even staffing agencies. I've even been to several interviews. However, none have resulted in a job offer. The last job I applied for I was told I was turned down because I'd only stayed at my last two jobs for a few months (5-6 months) and because I'd gotten a bad reference from the job I was terminated from.
I do currently have a job but it is extremely below my qualifications, pays poorly, and prevents me from being able to spend almost any time with my family due to the hours. In addition, it is a dead end job with no real prospects for promotions.
Please help me!! I'm so depressed and dejected after all these let downs. I feel like at 23, my career is dead. |
Hi!
This is one of the obstacles we encounter. And I'm glad to inform you that this is normal. You don't have to let these people belittle your strengths and skills. You have to show them your potential for them to hire you.
You are still young. There are greater opportunity waiting for you outside. You don't lose hope. Most of the people here are right. You have to go on and be persistent with your job search. You'll never know if you will just sit all day long.
Good luck! |

I faced your same problem. I solved it, however, within 60 days. I called the London office of Documented Reference Check (badreferences.com). They use Certified Court Reporters to document what your past supervisors to potential employers.
Needless to say, I busted my idiot supervisor. Got a six figure settlement and my ex-supervisor terminated. My career is doing just fine. But, you have to solve your problem. Don't waste money with solicitors who sympathize and wring their hands and charge you a fortune. Bring them your evidence and get your supervisor terminated. What they are doing is illegal! |

Well done! Thank you for this information. I'll check that site out and do a site review for our members. We get a lot of people with this problem, particularly in the US, where this is serial abuse, on a colossal scale. The fact that somebody can run a site dedicated to these atrocities proves how rampant this problem is. It is effectively defamation, and it is damageable, when proven. Any and every workable course of action is so important for people to know about and understand. Careers get trashed like this, and people need all the comebacks they can find.
About time these vicious, petty, useless little so and sos got what they deserve. |

Focus your efforts on building a network and spreading word through that network that you are looking for work. Remember that the primary purpose for resumes and CVs is to help the screeners determine who NOT to interview. The referred candidate almost always has an advantage over the candidate whose resume or CV came in through the mail.
Think about how you can attract employers to you by writing articles or blog posts in your field, demonstrating your worthiness as an employee.

Yeah i think like lots of ppl have said prior to me, the key is to just keep persivering on, aso if you address why you were fired and left your two previous jobs oin the interview this should take off some of the impact of negative refferences.
I know it sounds a very basic thing but could you perhaps put down a uni/college lecturer or form tutor as a refference as supposed to this second employer who are giving you a bad refference. |

Try to stay on the current job for at least a year, if you can stand it, a little bit more. Keep the job search effort alive, consider it practice. Figure out exactly what you want to do and where.
Follow the great suggestion about using BadReferences.com, one of the best suggestions I have seen.
Once you have past the 1 to 1 1/2 year point, start the job search again and you'l have good experience and job history behind you.
Consider the job you are currently working as nothing but a stepping stone. Step one on your climb up the ladder of success.
Again, BadReferences.com is an incredible step to take. |

I didn’t think previous employers were allowed to give bad references?
Keep searching and something will happen for you
While it may not be what you want to hear it’s all I have to offer I’m afraid. It’s a tough time right now and it’s a lot harder for people to find a job that they enjoy. You’ve just got to persevere |
