I just took a job as an executive assistant. It's turning out like hell, the stuff I have to do, I'm always running around taking memos and rushing out to pick people and documents. Of course I knew all this going in but it's still been tough. And to top it all off my boss just gave me this timeshare of his to sell. He says that he uses it for business, but I think he's lying so he can use me and corporate dollars to sell it. I don't know what to do. Is this legal? Should I consider reporting him?

If you want to quit, quit. But I think it wise to at least try to find something else first, and hang on in the interim.

A lot of people don't realize how stressful the corporate environment is. I worked admin/assist jobs out of college for some pretty big names and loathed EVERY position. But think about your education level, skillset, etc, and what kind of a salary other jobs will offer. I know at least for me, I didn't have any choice other than to work those kinds of jobs.

As for your other question, the ethical thing. It doesn't sound TOO fishy, just because those guys at the head of the company can make their assistants do all kinds of stuff that isn't in the job description. I picked up plenty of specialty lotions and dry cleaning in my day. I would ask your boss about getting a reselling agent or a company like Timeshare Relief since those things can be insane to unload. Tell him it will tie up your other duties, like answering the phones when his mistresses call and fetching coffee. But I wouldn't blow any whistles this young on the job, especially with an exec involved.

Too funny!

Might be fitting if the timeshare-thing was sold to a bunch of Russian mafia-types, or Columbian drug lords....or became a brothel! Very Happy

How about become good at what you ate told to do and take your share as well? Man, I have some friends working as exec assists in some big companies who have become so witty you can't imagine. They were complaining themselves the bosses make them do things they are not supposed to, but they got clever and they have managed to buy themselves houses and cars in a relative short period. Not like me...I'm gonna buy a house tomorrow and pay for it 30 years from now on...LOL

My opinion is that you should get on the advantages vs disadvantages scale and see how things look after this.

As for the way to quit a job. Don't go to "I p*** on your job, I quit!" thing because it is always good to leave the door open after you. You never know.
