I'm not gonna tell you which one of the jobs to choose eventually. If you are worried about how to terminate with the present job and go for the other one, do not be. No employer is forcing you to remain in his company if the balance advantages/disadvantages is not going in his favor.
About your choice, if you feel more comfortable with the second job (I don't think you called it "outstanding" for nothing), and you don't really mind being 2000$ short (is it / year or / month?), then go for it. |

The days of loyalty to an employer sadly, have gone since many employers treat employees as commodities and hire and fire at will.
The new offer, despite the drop in salary sounds like it will be much better. I can't believe anyone would commute 62 miles for a job and the 15 minutes deal sounds much better, after all, time is life. What you save in petrol or fares for the distant job should make up for the salary drop.
Go for it. |

Sadly, you owe your employer nothing. Give a few days notice and quit. 62 miles! No way - better yet, call in and quit over the phone (just remove your personal things slowly prior to the call).
Hit em low! |

Amen!
If "they" ever, ever want to see "loyalty" again, those changes absolutely will have to come from the top and work their way downward. (I'm not holding my breath.) |

Personal commodity is important for me so I'd take the second offer without a problem. It is way better not to feel exhausted from travelling a long way to get to work and back than spending just a few minutes doing that. The motivation is higher and stronger...
This would definitely be my choice...I mean....2K's a year...I think you can get those out of something else...maybe during the time you would have spent going 62 miles one way to work. |
