Hi I have recently been successful at completing stages 1 and 2 (being telephone and face-2-face interviews) with a very large Insurance company based in the UK.
I have appied for the role of Sales Manager. Although i do not have any Management experience as such, I have worked in insurance for 3-4 years for a number of comanies including this one, where i have been an Underwriter. For the last year i have worked in Recruitment to build up the skills i need for this particular role.

The 3rd and final stage to this process is to attend a day away at an organisation that assess different types of skills. On the day i will have another interview and will be doing different team building activities.

I have ran through my mind all the different types of manamagement questions i would be asked and am having problems finding the answer to this one:

When asked: "who would you consider to be your heroe and whats skills have they used to be as successful as they are today"

I am looking for somebody that is very business and sales minded (somebody well known) and i need to know the skills they have. For example, sales driven, motorvational, strong leader, and driven by tagets and goals to achieve success.

Can anybody think of this person and the proven skills they have used to get them where they are today??
Also, if anybody has any top tips with regards to getting results etc from your team i would be very interested to hear about this too.

Thanks a lot

ps.. please ignore the spelling mistakes im very tired! lol

I would name off someone who started their own company and is now a success, who worked from basics and persevered to become highly successful. Maybe someone like Bill Gates or something?

Hello there

Interesting question! I was fortunate to meet ex England Cricketer Jeremy Snape recently who has made the transition from highly successful cricketer to Business Coach. He started in cricket aged 15 and has used his sporting success to make the transition to running a successful training and coaching business. You can see more at his web site: www.thesportingedge.co.uk

You can find plenty of other examples in the world of sport.

I hope this helps!

Good luck with the interview.

Somebody who could be a great role model would be Sir Alan "You're Fired" Sugar go to this link to Brunel University to read his citation which defines his qualities.

I would use the example of someone who people recognise as working hard and achieving success through dedication and motivation - the competencies that your employer will almost certainly be lookiing for. For example, I'd say that a politician or someone on a more managerial level/people leadership level would be a good kind of person to use. Perhaps someone like Tony Blair, or even dare I say it Gordon Brown!

This article on assessment centres may be useful for preparing further for yoru assessment away day.

Good luck!

Choose someone who you do actually admire and it will be easy to formulate this answer. The interviewer is not looking for a well rehearsed speech, he or she is trying to get an insight into who you are.
Good Luck
