So i just found out today that i have to start covering the receptionists breaks and as far as i remember that was not part of the job description and although it pretty much just requires me to sit there and answer the phone i did not think that was part of the deal and i dont know how to say anything about it especially because im fairly new to the company and don't wanna make waves-ANY ADVICE?????

Lol....sorry....
ok....if you don't want to "make waves" you can answer the dam' phone Very Happy But if you don't agree to that and you find this very tiresome, you can speak your mind out and ask for some compensation for the new duties, correct? But I doubt you'll have success if these duties enter the 8 hour (or whatever) initial schedule.

Are you doing these duties while you are trying to do your own? I would not make a big deal out of it unless it is hindering YOUR work also. It's not like they are asking you to do a large, complicated task.

Yeah, this is your version of a job I had in the mid-'70s, #13 on the list of "duties" was, literally, "other duties as assigned."

There is a way out, you know--and it might very well get you promoted. Be thoroughly incompetent! And no, I'm not kidding. If you've been really good at your "normal" duties, feign mediocrity and they'll either put you back where you'd rather be or, again, might even bump you up a notch or two.

Remember, you're dealing with a "corporate" mindset. And no one ever said these people had any brains.
