Hello, I am new here and wondered if someone can give me a bit of information about job seekers allowance. My daughter, who is 20 has been receiving job seekers allowance for a few months now. She is planning on doing a college/uni course this year. She was told by someone at the unemployment office that she can't claim job seekers allowance while she is waiting for a college course to start. Is there another benefit that she can claim until then? Also, if she were to start a course while being unemployed will she get a grant and no grant if she had been working?

She can benefit unemployment allowance only if she's over 27 and waiting to start a college course. Otherise, as far as I know, she cannot.
BUT. In my country, if you benefit for job seeker's allowance and you do find a job during one year, you can get the money for another year, all in the same time, as a compensation 
If she enters college, she might as well betnefit from a scholarship, but she exists the unemployment benefits list. |
