Hi,

I had an interview in the last week of Nov. The interviewer said that he was going to do a background check and call me back again for the 2nd interview. He also said that he was sure that my background check was going to come out ok. A week later I sent them an email asking them how my background checks came out. No response... I am tempted to send them an email asking them if they found someone for the position or if I am not selected or whats happening.

But I am not sure what to do (Of course now its been a long long time) so most probably they're not interested.

But even if they did not select you don't they even send you an email or something saying that you are not selected?

Similarly I had an interview last month... around Dec. 2nd week. The interviewer said that his boss was going to get back to me in 2 weeks ( he did mention that it might take longer since it was the holiday season).. but still no response?

Am I doing something wrong? In both cases I did send Thank you letters? What do I do now? Do I need to call them or something??

Well, I don't think that you have done something wrong. In fact...you don't have to, in order not to be called back. It's just that sometimes, some employers forget about the decent rules of a hiring process. I mean, yes, you are totally right bout "How comes they don't even send me an e-mail notice to say they have chosen somebody else". The answer is ignorance. Of course it is a natural and normal thing to do. So what if you do not fit thie requirements, I'm sure you can take a "No" if it is given to you, right?
You have to understand there are people like these everywhere and it's no use worrying too much because of their way of handleing things. Do not blame it on you either, because you'll be the only one affected. I say you keep going to interviews, keep sending thank you letters right after, because it's nice.
Good luck for the future!

I would venture a guess that most employers DON'T notify you that you haven't been chosen. (the weirdest I've ever encountered was a company that sent me a confirmation letter that I'd applied for the position--I applied online--but never anything saying I wasn't chosen. And it seems to me that would've been the higher priority)

That said, they could just be taking longer than expected. When I interviewed for my current job, he told me when he would be making a decision and extending a job offer by. That day came and went and I assumed I did not get the job though I was a bit disappointed that I hadn't been called and told this. I was convinced to the point that a week or so later, I tried to apply to other jobs at the company; as their site only allows three applications at a time, I was being blocked because of former applications and I had to call them to have them clear my account. The woman I talked to said, "one of the positions you applied for is still open." I told her "no, I don't think so; I was told they'd be making a decision by X date and I didn't hear anything so I believe it's been filled" and told her to go ahead and clear it so I could put in my new applications. That night I got a call to offer me the job. Go figure.
