A great way to make your workforce more flexible is to cross train employees so you can move them wherever you have the greatest need. You might also consider sharing a staff member with another department. By putting together two part-time jobs-say, a morning shift on the loading dock with an afternoon shift in the mailroom-you can create the equivalent of a full-time job and perhaps avoid a layoff.
