Resume advice

Hi Everyone,

I need advice. I am like the many people out there who were on unemployment for a period of time. How do I incorporate that into my resume to look professional? And second, do I mention on my resume, that during unemployment, I had to take care of my sick mom for a good 9 mths?

I am trying to get myself back on track, so, I would really like to make my resume show that we all hit bumps in the road & do our best to get back up.

The resume/CV is the place to show experience and education. If during the unemployment period, you picked up experience or education, you can list. Examples might be volunteer work, freelance work, classes taken, etc.

If however, you don't have experience/education to show for the unemployment period, then that would just be a gap on your resume. This happens; not everyone is employed all the time.

Just have good answers ready if you are asked about unemployment during an interview, and feel free to mention in cover letters what you were doing during unemployment. Cover letters are the place to explain things that a resume doesn't show.
