|
|
| Im a single mom. I have been working this job whose hours make it very hard to find childcare. Also my daughter who is 10 months old got injured twice at the daycare she is in now. So I have taken days off to find daycare within the hours of my job. I live in ny and daycare here is expensive and go from 7-6 and I work till 6 and can only get home by 7-730. Can I collect unemployment if I quit? I feel that my child is in danger at this daycare cause no one was adequatly supervising her when this injury happened. What can I do? |

You probably will not be able to collect unemployment if you quit, but you might be able to get government assistance to help pay for your childcare costs. It depends on your income of course. And the best recommendation I can give you is to start checking with the government offices in your area to see if you qualify for anything. Another good source of course is the better business bureau, who can give you data on daycare places, both good and bad. That way you will have something factual as a guide to help you select a better place for your child.

You might be able to leave your job becuase of a child care issue but you will need to show that you have exhausted (I mean really exhausted) every other way to solve your problem. Have you:
1. Discussed the issue with your employer?
2. Contacted every other child care provider in your area?
3. Determined whether the child's other parent can work an opposite shift?
4. Applied for State and Federal assistance?
5. Contacted all of your friends and relatives?
If you intend to quit your job you had better take all of the above steps at a minimum - I woudl try to think of even more ways to solve the issue.
Additionally, you should document each attempt as well as provide copies of your written communication with your child's current child care provider concerning the injury. |
