Your advertisement for a Senior Assistant indicated requirements that match my long-term job interests and prior academic activities and background. While at first glance my background as a computer professional may not seem to fit your typical candidate profile, I am confident that my skills in multi-tasking, client interaction and deadline management, as well as my knowledge of Office, Web and Database technologies would indeed be an excellent match for this position. I have enclosed my resume to provide a summary of my qualifications for your review.

As a Cultural Secretary at college in India I have had the privilege to help organize, plan and conduct numerous inter-collegiate events. My skills were further enhanced as a Senior Consultant who interacted with a wide student spectrum. My professional and academic experiences I believe have hence equipped me with a multitude of skills which will prove an asset to the XXXX vision to provide services, advocacy and information

If my abilities meet the needs of the XXXX, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity of speaking with you personally at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time.

Appreciate any comments or reviews.Thank you

Pavi,

Where is the position? In India? This is important as there may be certain protocols to observe with your covering letter. Generally I would like to offer the following few observations:

Firstly don't give them any excuse not to consider you. By saying that you have an incompatible background as a computer professional is not what they want to hear at all so lose it! Emphasise that the skills you have acquired as a computer pro match the requirements of the advertised position! Always stay positive without appearing arrogant.

Again, while this is an important career move for you, they don't want to assume that you will quickly become restless and move on elsewhere. Place the accent on this position providing a greater challenge and better use of those skills. You want to be an asset to the company/organisation, not a potential liability.

Once again, you have introduced doubt by saying "If my abilities meet the needs etc..." Trim that line to "I would appreciate the chance to meet with you at the earliest opportunity in order to discuss etc..."

Good luck!
