My mother tongue is not English, so I would be glad if someone could check my cover letter. Thanks in advance:)

Dear Mr. xxx,
I am interested in applying for an internship position at yyy.
I am now in the fourth year of my studies in mechanical engineering at the "ETH Zürich” in Switzerland. I am specialized in structure mechanics.
I have to perform as a part of my studies an internship in a company for at least 12 weeks. I would like to do this internship in your company. The work should start approximately on 1 July.
At the beginning of the internship, I will have finished eight semesters of my studies with success. Thanks to my good education in a school with a good reputation, I feel adequate to perform my work at yyy successfully. I am ready to commit myself fully in the tasks that you would like me.
I believe that I would be an asset to your program. This internship would provide me with the ideal opportunity to assist at your organization and to expand my research skills.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
zzz

For English not being your mother tongue, that's good! There were no spelling errors either! I am impressed, I think you are good to go. Just for your reference, I am including a link to an article here on the site in case you would like it.

But looks good to me!

Hi Schof, here is a cover letter rewrite that may be helpful:
Contributed by Ann Baehr, CPRW, Best Resumes of New York

Dear Mr. XXX:

Currently in my fourth year at ETH Zurich in Switzerland, I am seeking a 12-week internship with _______ starting July 1, 2008.

The completion of this required internship will mark a full eight semesters of academic training from this well-respected institution as a mechanical engineering major with a specialization in structure mechanics.

In addition to being a quick learner with a strong work ethic, I am analytical with excellent research and organizational skills. If given the opportunity to intern at your organization, I will give a 110% effort to all assigned tasks while learning what I need to succeed as a mechanical engineer.

Thank you for your time and consideration of my internship candidacy. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
