What do you think about this letter ? Is it too long ? Not good enough ?
In response to your advertisement on ****, I would like to apply for the Analytical Development Scientist position. I am strongly convicted that my knowledge and skills of microbiology, biochemistry, genetics and allied sciences gained during my education years make me an outstanding candidate for this position and will be of great value for your company.
In summer 2007, I was given an opportunity to work as a part of team in the Biochemistry Department, University of Bristol. We focused on understanding how initial adhesive interactions between Ephs and ephrins can be switched to repulsion. I supported the research in completing assigned experiments, and recorded and analyzed massive amounts of data. My role there was to optimize transfection techniques (liposome transfection method) in Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells. This experience gave me the opportunity to work closely with a team of researchers, and helped me to understand the importance of good lab practice. I received consistently excellent feedback in relation to my supporting role from senior members of staff and colleagues. This job involved using many laboratories techniques
Although I come from non-English speaking country i found it easy to communicate with staff members and my British friends. I had no problems with working as a part of team or independently on my own initiative. It was such a valuable learning experience and gave me the inspiration for my master's thesis project and confirmed to me that I am making the correct decision to aim for a career in the biotechnology sector. The laboratory environment is one in which I am well versed, challenged, and entirely comfortable.
My Master's Thesis project "Localizations of metalloproteinases-2 and -9 in endothelial cells".The thesis research was performed in the laboratory of Medical University of Lodz. I worked independently, without constant supervision and developed strong organisational skills and extreme motivation. Project required both biochemical and molecular biology methods. I obtained the final grade more than good and on 25th September 2008 awarded the degree of Master of Engineering in Biotechnology.
During my studies I was involved in many projects e.g. in the Laboratory of Molecular Virusology and Biological Chemistry (Institute for Medical Biology of Polish Academy of Sciences) I was working as part of the team focused on mechanisms of Human cytomegalovirus and other herpesviruses transmission and variability, using techniques such as PCR, SDS-PAGE, cells culture and competent cells preparation, plasmid isolation, restriction enzymes digestion.
I wish to apply for above position because it is a perfect combination of my love of the biological sciences, and my desire to solve complex problems and analyze informations.I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss how my education and experience will be helpful to you. |
